A Labour Party Chieftain in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo has resigned his membership of the Party at the State Executive Committee meeting of the Party at Awka, in Anambra State. Valentine Ozigbo joined the Labour Party sometime in 2022 and threw his support behind the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi. He was a pillar of support for Peter Obi all through the campaign period.
After the elections, Labour Party has faced various political challenges. Various power factions and gladiators wants to take control of the party. The warring factions have made the party unattractive and this has led to sevaral resignations.
Valentine Ozigbo’s resignation follows a series of other prominent resignation from the party including Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo who was one of the party’s spokesperson during the 2023 elections. Earlier, Mr. Doyin Okupe also resigned from the Party.
Valentine Ozigbo’s resignation has caused mixed reactions among the Obidient movement due to his closeness with Mr. Peter Obi. Some are insinuating that he is moving over to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the gubernatorial election in Anambra State this year. Recall that Valentine resigned from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) before he joined the Labour Party. The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has a penchant of causing pain and agony to Nigerians through their policies. If he decides to join the APC, he will lose a lot of followership.
Many people are still waiting for the reaction of Mr. Peter Obi. Although Valentine stated that he informed Mr. Obi before his resignation, it is not clear how Mr. Obi will react to it or where his own political trajectory lie within the Labour Party. It is no secret that the Labour Party destroyed itself. Whether Mr. Peter Obi will rebuild the Labour Party or move to a less controversial political party is yet to be ascertain
